Press Statement on SA’s Leadership
OUR LEADERSHIP: “JUDGED BECAUSE OF THEIR VANITY” 6 April 2016 The Jesuit Institute strongly condemns the way South Africa’s leadership has sacrificed “a better life for all” on the altar of selfishness, greed, ego, hypocrisy and dishonesty. What happened in Parliament on Tuesday shows that corruption, like a drug, has colonized the minds of our leadership […]

SPOTLIGHT ON ACCOUNTABILITY
It’s strange, watching a film based on events of which you were part, however peripherally. The film Spotlight has that effect on me: I was in Boston the year the Boston Globe newspaper revealed the extensive cover-up by Church authorities of child-abusing priests in the archdiocese. With minimal sensationalism Spotlight tells the story of how […]

Satan’s Playground
By Fr Russell Pollitt, S.J. I am a ‘white’ South African. I am angry. I am disillusioned. I cannot believe that one stupid, senseless, racist fool could throw a country backwards, into a vicious circle of despair, because she splashed her bigoted, undignified and racist views on Facebook. It’s utterly unacceptable. Penny Sparrow’s racist comment […]
